A few days ago I posted a personal appeal here urging everyone to step back from their usual Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings this year — specifically to increase the odds that future holiday gatherings will be possible. Rachel Maddow said it perfectly the other day on her MSNBC show.
Whatever you think of Rachel Maddow, set that aside for a moment. (Personally I find her information helpful but not her political conclusions.)
This is a clip which I extracted from a longer video posted to YouTube by MSNBC. In it Rachel speaks personally about her companion, Susan, who is currently sick with COVID and what we each need to think about with the holidays coming up.
Those of us urging caution are not being alarmists — and if we are, please indulge us because even in doubt an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of funeral. This is not permanent; vaccines are on the way. Let’s all just live to enjoy the benefits.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is flat-out urging people to stay home for the holiday.
“The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving this year is at home with members of your household,” said Erin Sauber-Schatz, who leads the agency’s community intervention and critical population task force. She urged Americans to reassess plans for the coming week. – New York Times
If you simply must host or attend some kind of gathering despite everything, the CDC has posted guidance online.
Stay safe. Be Well.
